An historical collection of fish scales and tissues

An historical collection of fish scales and tissues

The collection of ichthyological samples, Colisa (https://doi.org/10.15454/D3ODJM), results of the merging of historical samples collected by 3 INRAE units (U3E in Rennes, ECOBIOP in Saint Pée sur Nivelle and CARRTEL in Thonon les Bains) and the Migratory fish hub (Pôle OFB-INRAE-Institut Agro-UPPA pour la gestion des migrateurs amphihalins dans leur environnement).

These samples come from long term monitoring and research activities conducted by these units and from a national catch declaration sheme (angling and professional fishery).

It consists of more of 250,000 scales and 70,000 tissue samples of fish from more of 35 species of fishes collected in France over 50 years.

Beyond age and growth, these samples, carrying DNA, allow genetic characterization of individuals or population. Via microchemistry, these samples allow to characterize the trophic status and the environmental conditions of life of these animals. The conservation of these tissues allow to investigate historical changes (global and local) that have occurred.

Samples are referenced in the Colisa database and can be made available upon request.

Colisa was labelled by the GIS IBISA (Infrastrutures in Biology, Health and Agronomy) in December 2017 and has been ISO 9001:2015 certified since July 2020.
