Biocontrol

Sustainable Agriculture: INRA and Biocontrol agents manufacturers

Developing the inter-sectorial partnership between INRA (department ISA) and Biocontrol agents manufacturers in the field of augmentation biological control

Egg parasitoids are both relevant biological models for eco-evolutionary investigations and also a reservoir of candidate strains (species / populations / genotypes) for augmentation biological control, defined as the repeated releases of biocontrol agents for a more or less extended pest control.

With regard to this second objective, the biological resources, knowledge and know-how associated available at the BRC EP-Coll aim to contribute to (i) the characterization of the local biodiversities of native egg parasitoids with regard to the regulation about the use of exotic species, (ii) a better characterization of the identity and the relevance of commercial products, (iii) the research and development (R&D) of new biocontrol agents.

In the particular case of the use of Trichogramma species in Europe, a durable partnership exists between the department ISA and Bioline Agrosciences (formerly Biotop) and collaborations were strongly reinforced in the frame in the international project COLBICS (https://www.colbics.eu/).

The feasibility of extending the R&D activities and/or the BRC to other egg parasitoids (e.g. Scelionidae, Mymaridae) is currently evaluated and public-private collaborations are also welcome.

Fondation Pierre Vérots

Funding: foundation Pierre Verots

Leader: GROUSSIER Géraldine (INRA)

Summary: BRC EP-Coll is involved in a collaborative research project with the french foundation Pierre Verots, which aims to investigate and study trichogramma and other eggs parasitoids genus specifically on the geographic area where is located the foundation Pierre Verots.

UCA JEDI - TRICHOBIO

Funding: UCA

Leader: MALAUSA Thibaud (INRA)

Summary:This BOOST Action involves several public organisms (UMR ISA, UMR GREDEG and INRIA Mediterannée) as well as the private society BIOLINE. The research area is the R&D in biological control. The BRC “EP-Coll” participates to this action and a CIFRE Thesis involving the BRC “EP-Coll” is planned from September 2019.
